Which Documents Should I Keep Organized for My Family’s Benefit?

September 27, 2022
Tom Torr

A well-rounded estate plan is something that should be created with the help of a qualified and experienced attorney, but you should also start this process by gathering all necessary documents. This is to help you determine what falls inside your probate estate, and to ensure that it is included in your estate planning process. Estate plans often incorporate multiple different documents associated with your assets and can come from different sources.

The more organized you are, the easier it will be to cover all of these issues in your estate plan and the less difficult it will be for your estate executor to have to seek these out if and when you pass away unexpectedly. Organize the following materials in one place for your executor and your family to find them:

  • Insurance policies
  • Tax details
  • Trusts
  • Wills
  • Real estate deeds
  • Bank account information
  • Stock and bond certificates
  • Mutual fund documentation
  • Information about any cryptocurrency
  • A detailed list of your debts
  • Funeral prepayment plans, if purchased
  • Instructions or personal wishes regarding final arrangements
  • Military death benefits, if applicable
  • Insurance policies

Working with a knowledgeable estate planning attorney is a great way to cover all of these issues and ensure that you have a plan aligned with your own wishes. Set aside time today to sit down with an estate planning attorney in NH to learn more about how to best represent yourself and your legacy.
